Literacy Strategy

Our Lady’s Catholic High School places reading, writing and purposeful oracy at the heart of learning across our curriculum. Rooted in the principles of the National Curriculum, the school recognises that literacy is fundamental to pupils’ academic success and future participation in society, ensuring that students develop the confidence and competence to communicate effectively in a wide range of contexts. Through regular opportunities to read challenging texts, craft thoughtful written responses and use structured talk to clarify and develop their thinking, pupils are supported in becoming articulate, reflective learners.

By embedding the tripartite practice of reading, writing, and oracy across all subjects, the literacy strategy aims to nurture life-long learners who are skilled in every aspect of communication and able to think critically, express themselves clearly, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.
