All pupils are taught Physical Education at Our Lady’s
We have four full time specialist PE members of staff who deliver the PE curriculum to all pupils:
- Mr Hewitt (Principal Teacher of PE)
- Mr Newsham (Assistant Principal Teacher of PE)
- Miss Lewis (Teacher of PE)
- Mrs Lin (Teacher of PE & Learning Manager)
The PE has a purpose built Gym and full size purpose built Sports Hall. Outside we have various Football/Netball/Rugby pitches and an All Weather area.
All pupils receive a wide and varied curriculum at KS3. Each pupils has two hours PE week, one outdoor lesson and one indoor lesson. The curriculum is slightly different for girls and boys, however the following activities are offered over a 6 week block:
- Table Tennis
Pupils at KS4 participate in 1 hour of PE (unless they take GCSE PE). Pupils spend one half term indoors and then go outside for one half term. There is a little more flexibility in activities at KS4 as we try to include activities that pupils may participate in outside of school so when they leave Our Lady’s they still engage in physical activity. Pupils are able to choose from the list above and also choose to do 2 weeks of each in order to cater for all pupils.
Pupils opt in Y9 to take GCSE PE. We currently have 48 pupils in Y11 and 34 pupils in Y10 studying GCSE PE. Both cohorts follow the new 9-1 OCR syllabus. These pupils have 5 hours of GCSE PE lessons over 2 weeks. Please click here for the Y10 and Y11 specification. This will take you direct to the exams board website where you can see the course in great detail.
We run a very broad and balanced extra-curricular programme. Staff work hard to ensure there are activities before school, lunch and after school. We have teams in all sports and have achieved great success at local/district and national levels.
