Year 10 Textiles Trips

Earlier this week Year 10 GCSE Textiles took part in a visit to The Harris Museum, where a curator specialising in knowledge of historical fashion, gave us a tour of the museum explaining about the variety of mediums artists use to gather inspiration. This led into an exclusive visit to the Textile archives at the museum where they hold books of fabrics produced by Horrockses Mill in Preston in the 1800s. Pupils were able to look closely, feel and photograph fabric and fashion from many different eras, all of which were produced locally in Preston.

The day out then led us to ‘Milano Pro Sport’ who are a design and manufacturing company in Preston. Milano supply gymnastic wear and other specialist sportswear to sports teams all over the world from their small studio in Preston. They were producers of the Rio Olympic Gymnastic team kit in 2016. Pupils were able to see a working design room and manufacturers in action from initial sketches right through to finished product. They were able to see how many of the techniques and processes we use in class are a true reflection of the industrial world of Textile production.
